Slimers?

I've read a few posts on this forum, and I sometimes see people using the term "slimer" to describe a kind of fish. Just out of curioustiy, can someone tell me what "slilmer" reffers to? Is it a type of fish, or a size of fish? I was just wondering.

Interesting. I'm still learning the BFT slang. Is there any particular reason why? Every fish I ever caught has been pretty slimy. Why do trout get the title?

Why do trout get the title?[/quote]Because even though trout are far wiser and superior to bass, bass fisherman decided to give them this red-necked slang name. One reason is that sometimes when in a tournament bass guys sometimes hook a trout instead of a bass and since trout fight so much better than bass, it infuriates them when what they thought was a 5# largemouth is only a 2# rainbow. The trout is of no value in their bass tally so they say something like "darn it Earl, another slimer, don't let it touch the boat, it'll curse us!"

no it was a utwalleye that branded them with slimer about 18yrs ago when 1 slipped threw his had and imbedded a rapala in his hand. [shocked] i was ther.

Another name for slimers is "Hatchery Carp."

I'm not a good enough angler to have a "favorite fish". I'm happy with whatever takes my bait! I'll even take a carp if it means that I can wash the skunk smell off of me.

I am a bass guy first but enjoy fall fishing at Strawberry for big trout in there. I have caught a few that leave a snail trail three inches wide and two feet long on the carpet of my boat. What's worse is the slime foamed up. It took five gallons of water to wash off the deck. However, I still fish for them each fall.

For me when I get bored of one species I go to the other. I enjoy fishing for both. Each have their own presentations so each are a different challenge.

That's how I am too. I'm an equal opportunity fisherman, I love them all. Trout are beautiful, and I love fly fishing beautiful mountain streams or the feel of a big Kamloops nailing a leech on sinking line. On the other hand, I love the sheer aggression of bass, their fight, when they blow up on a topwater, when they clobber a crank or spinnerbait, it's just a lot of fun. I love the mad runs and tail walking that the tiger musky exhibit when you get them next to your tube. I think it's a glorious day when you get into a mess of bluegill and they hammer a popper relentlessly. Even the maligned carp can be a ton of fun with it's blistering, line peeling takeoffs. Lately I've been enjoying tromping through the marshes with a hunk of carp meat on the end of my line looking for whiskery folk. While smallmouth just might be my all around favorite fish, I have to say I love them all and try to spend some personal time with each of them throughout the year.

Don't know if this has been mentionened yet but,----------, for me it means that they have a protective "slim" coating that is sensitive to fish handling which requires more careful handling. I have my own biases and which probably have a little to do with the the term, but I have do admit that each fish has it's place for enjoyment in the Ut. fishery. For me, winter, - slimmers. warm weather bass.[] Too each his own!!!! Just enjoy the experince of fishun!!!![fishin]

Also known as Mushbacks here in Colorado. This all the DOW will stock here on the west slope of Colorado. That is why I spend all my money in Utah.
