Start A New Tradition: Take Mom Fishing
Everyone needs a break from their routine, including mom. This year create a new Mother's Day tradition and take mom fishing on Sunday May 9! Fishing provides mom with a great opportunity to bond with family and creates lasting memories that mean so much more than any store-bought gift. Whether a first-time or seasoned angler, Mom will certainly cherish the time spent fishing with family. And if mom is an avid angler and hasn't renewed her license this year consider giving one as a gift; it's an easy and economical way to show her you care.
May and early June are some of the best times of the year to fish in Alabama. Special fishing areas, such as Alabama State Public Fishing Lakes and Alabama State Parks, have fishing piers and mowed areas for bank access that are perfect for reeling in bream, catfish, and bass. More information on catching freshwater and saltwater fish in Alabama can be found in the fishing section ofwww.outdooralabama.com.
The two primary rules when fishing with the family are to have fun and be safe. When fishing by boat always wear a life jacket. Sunglasses and hats provide protection from the sun and stray hooks. Insect repellent and sunscreen can also make the fishing trip more comfortable. Remember that catching fish is certainly exciting, but if the fish aren't biting take the time to share a conversation with mom - she will be glad you did.
To make the experience more enjoyable<br />
take along plenty of water and remember to treat mom to her favorite picnic treats on Mother's Day. By creating a new Mother's Day tradition such as an exciting fishing trip you will create lasting family memories and remind mom of how much you love her.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama's natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
