Got my kayak
#1
Finally got a kayak... Perception Sportcaster 12.5 from Dicks for $599.

Took it out yesterday: people make it look so easy

I have a hard time keeping it going straight. I think I'm inconsistent with my paddling. or maybe the cheap paddle i got... i dunno

went from fishing pier on boulder beach, towards the turn to the dam, then over to the water treatment tower and back.... omg i took a beating. caught a 2lb striper near the water tower. I may need a week to recover, but heading back out next week.

congrats on the new floater.

I remember my nephew his first time in the canoe, He thought he knew what he was doing and could handle it from the front. bouy was he suprized when I let him have the controlls all to him self. [Image: bobwink.gif]

nope it aint as easy as it looks.. and when you get that mastered, you will have be beat. I refuse to get in one.. lol any boat that floats upside down is not for me.... [laugh]

Hi Willy,

Congratulations on your new Kayak.

That was one heck of a ride you took. I went from Boulder Harbor up to the creek entrance at Las Vegas Wash for my first one. Not to bad, had to work the next day and it sort of helped work out most of the kinks by noon.

I am planning on hitting it early tomorrow morning to see if I can't get a little fish slime on her to make her an official Angling Kayak.[Wink]

Nice.

I haven't taken the yak out for a month. Seems like everytime I have time to go fishing, someone wants to tag along so I gotta take the boat out instead.

I plan to take it out early morning Friday to see if I can get some surface action near calville. I hope the launch is not too bad.

They finished the new launch ramp at Callville, and it is awesome! The parking lot is close, and you are way closer to the tires (meaning less of a paddle out of the marina). Last time I was out with Sil240sxrwd, we found stripers slurping larval shad off the surface. We couldn't get them to hit conventional baits, but I'm sure they will bite on something small.

Small flies would work great, I'm sure-

or some small white curly-tail grubs (1" or 2")

Or a small 2" crankbait or jerkbait

Or a small spoon or something like it.

Good luck on the yak!

Hi Guys,

I ran into a similar situation today just outside 33 Hole and got two nice 24 inch Stripers on a 1 inch white curly tail grub on a white lead headed jig. I also got a little video of the slashing and whacking going on in the water I will post later. I did see some of the little Shad up around some weeds earlier, they looked almost pale greenish yellow and about one inch long, won't be long and it will be time to break out the cast nets again.[Wink]
