Advice needed

My son wants us to go fishing for three or four days next week, and take our new boat ( 1982 Seaswirl ) for it's maiden voyage. Do any of you folks have any suggestions on where to go to try out the boat and get in some fishing, small mouth bass or walleye or something?
I would prefer it be some place some what close to salt lake. I haven't been doing much fishing for several years and don't really know what is in the lakes around here. I have fished for trout in the past and he would like to get into some Bass or Walleye, something other than Trout.
Any help would be appreciated.

Deer Creek or Jordanelle would be my suggestions. No walleye in Jordanelle but it's loaded with smallies.
