Put in at Soddy Creek this morning about 6:30, (I really like these overcast days), emoSmile The rain held off till about noon but tried to make up for it's delay, emoSmile I hid under a bridge while it opened up and tried to flood the lake along with some lightening, :o The moon Gods and the Crappie Gods d upon me today with some very nice crappie. Most of what I caught was over 11 inches with only a very few throwbacks. I had several 13's but most of what came in the boat today was around 12 inches. Should have been keeping today because I had some real nice slabs, emoThumbsup No TARP's today but I did catch another black nose which makes the 3rd one of those that I've caught in the last month and this one was about 10 & 1/2 inches so maybe next year we'll be able to catch some 11 or 12 inch black nose.
The final count was 57 crappie and 2 'gills, (not one bass today although I did see some busting the top out in the river after 1 PM.) The bite was slow early but picked up around 10 AM and got better as the day went by. Sure hated to leave 'em biting but had to go. There was a couple real toad stranglers today and I had to seek shelter from the rain and lightening. I did some exploring for new places and found a couple that look like they will produce, I caught fish on both places so had to mark those for later checks.
The bite was deep early, around a 12-15 count in 20+ FOW then later it seemed to move up to a 10 after the rains started, probably 'cause the sky got darker. Did not catch any fish in less than 14 FOW today. The surface temp was 79*-80* everywhere I looked. I fished structure, bluffs, and deep docks and the lure of choice today varied between Blue Thunder, (Which sure applied today, emoSmile ) and Patriot, both with the tails dipped in J-J's Char/Garlic dye. It was a great day to be out there catchin' crappie even if I did get a little wet, emoTongue
