Lower Fish Creek
#1
Hiked my scout troop from the Scofield Dam to mile marker 6 along Lower Fish Creek on Thursday. We camped just past the third bridge.

I was able to get away for some fishing on Friday evening and then again this morning. Lots of hatches on the water. Not huge numbers of fish, but those that are there are VERY sizable. Using a size 18 pale morning dun during one hatch I landed three very nice browns in less than 30 minutes of fishing. ( 19 inch, 18 inch, and 16 inch). These were very healthy fish. [cool]

This morning I had several nice fish chasing various streamers cast to the shore, but wasn't able to hook up. I ended the morning landing a 16 inch cutt that slurped in my elk hair caddis while fishing a elk hair/rainbow warrior dry-dropper combo.

All fish were released unharmed for future catching.

Not a bad two-day backpack with the scouts. I only saw one other fly-fisherman on the water in the 2 1/2 days we were there. Most of the fishermen stay right up under the dam rather than hike the tracks to the area we were camped.

Sorry for not having pictures of the fish-- next time I will get some.

That's awesome! Thanks for the report. That is exactly the type of pack-in fishing trip I'm jonesing for! Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks I'll find the time.

How was the water clarity? I'm hoping to get up there soon. Thanks for the report.

Water levels have been raised. Lots of small debris in the water. The moss and weed beds seem to be growing quickly this year.
