UINTA FISHING
#1
Thinking of taking the kids for an over night fishing trip to the Uinta's Wendesday night. Haven't been there yet this year and was wondering about conditions. Would like to set up camp then hike up to some lakes. Any recomendations? Send me a PM if you don't want to hotspot on the board.

Thanks

I recommend snow shoes. I think it is still snowed in for the most part.

Smith and Morehouse is open for camping right now. Nost sure about the mirror lake highway areas. Try calling the Kamas and Evanston ranger offices to get current conditions.

Try Bridger Lake. The link will take you to google maps of the area. But basically you go up to Mt. View, WY then turn south and go back down toward the state line. Bridger is just inside Utah. Also, I have heard that State Line Res. has a serious population of Macs in it. But I have never taken a boat up to try.

Have caught a ton of fish there at Bridger with the classic fly and a bubble.

Also China lake is not too bad a hike from the Bridger Campground. Don't waste your time with Marsh Lake, for seemingly obvious reasons from the name.

You can get a rough idea of the snow levels by using the daily fire imagery satellite maps. Just click on the true color jpg to expand the picture. Using it and comparing google earth you can roughly see where the heaviest snow is. That doesn't mean that lower down there aren't drifts and lakes aren't frozen, and roads aren't closed. The sat image will only show the heaviest mountain snow. You can also look at the snowtel weather sites.

The sky isn't always clear so you may have to back up a day or two to see your area of interest.

Took me a while to get back to this thread, and I appreciate the info guys! The map info is great. Due to busy family stuff I never got to the Uintas that weekend, but I will be headed up for a day trip sometime this weekend, somewhere up there...I hope there won't be too many crowds over the fourth of July weekend up there.

Just got word that the camp ground at bridger lake is currently closed due to falling tree danger! I guess the beetles got in there really bad a few years ago, and the roots are finally rotting out. They have had a number of trees fall throghout the winter and spring, and worry about more falling in the winds from the summer thunder storms.

You can still go fish there, but no overnight camping. [:/]
