New Minnow in the Bait Bucket
#1
Hi All,

I am a life long fisherman from about age 5 when my old Dad took me to a Trout Farm in the Descanso Mountains in California to have a go at some big Rainbows. I have fished all over the place, back home in Arkansas, Large Mouth Bass and Catfish were the main objectives although the White Bass and Crappies in the smaller rivers and creeks in the Spring were lots of fun. In Arizona and Nevada, Stripers and Catfish are mostly what I go after now. I am not above heading out to the left coast to go play in the big pond (Pacific Ocean) and see just what I can reel in.

My largest fish ever was a 400 pound Blue Shark out there, it took a good hour and 45 minutes to bring to the side and fell victim to a Snake Charmer .410 in the head before the skipper of the boat would bring it aboard. Wise choice on his part. This was long before "catch and release" was ever heard of. Although most of my fishing is that way now, occasionally though I will invite a prime looking specimen home for supper.

Here on Lake Mead, the largest Striper I have managed went about 32 pounds fishing from a 16 foot canoe, talk about a Nantucket Sleigh Ride! The largest Catfish though was a 54 pounder from back home in Arkansas fishing from the bottom of the Dam at Dardanelle. Here at Lake Mead, the largest Cat only amounted to a little over 12 pounds.

Currently I am getting into Kayak Fishing as my Canoe owning buddy moved away so I decided that would be the thing to do. I purchased an Ascend FS12T from the local Bass Pro Shop and so far all I have managed was a nice trip out on the lake to break it in and learn a little about things like self rescue technique, paddling it in the most efficient manner and how much fun it is to be out on the lake. I will say that it is pretty stable to ride on, I have been in boats that wish they were as stable as it is. I also like it as it is only about 56 pounds and I can pack it on the top of my little truck and camper with relative ease.

Hope to see some of you out on the lake.
