I'm heading to the Uintas this week to camp and fish for a few days. I'll be base camping at Duck Lake off the Crystal Lake trail head and plan to fish different lakes in the area. I've fished Duck and Long lake before but none of the other lakes in the area. If you were going to this area, what other lakes would you fish? I see on the map that Fire, Island, Marjorie, Pot, and Weir are all fairly close. Any tips for these lakes? If you've got any suggestions for this area, I'd love to hear them. And I'll be sure to post pics and a report when I get back.

I usually do alot better at Duck and Long Lake. Fire lake had some bigger fish in it but they were way hard to catch. As you start down the hill to Duck there is a small pond off to the north that we have done real well at with flies. The fish are small but aggressive and fun for the kids to catch.

Duck, Pot, Wier are usually the most productive. Try them all, Try the small ones too. Let us know how it goes. Junior is good to for smaller brooks, Fire has larger more selective Cuts, and Island can be bait fished for above average fish. but the whole area is just a lot of fun. You might find it better to camp a good distance from any lake, more firewood, less mosquitoes, less impact, less company. In the good ole days we thought we had to camp right on the lake, and have a pole in the water at all times.

We camped at wall lake last weekend and caught a lot of fish with a fly rod using smaller renegades and parachute adams. It was beautiful!

Is there a regulation that you have to camp a specific footage away from some of those lakes? I thought it was 100' or something like that?

Thanks to everyone for the tips. We just got back and the fishing was really slow. We camped at Duck and fished there a lot with only a few brookies to show for it. We hiked to Hidden lake and between 3 of us only caught 5 fish. We only saw like 2 or 3 fish cruising the shoreline the whole time. I don't know what was going on because that lake has been very productive in the past. We also fished Weir one evening and again had little luck. I talked to one guy that fished Beaver and he said it had winter killed. He didn't see a single fish or have a single bite. Today we fished Weir and Long on the way out and only managed 2 fish. We used all kinds of flies and spinners but nothing seemed to work. Everyone we talked to was having the same luck so I guess it wasn't just us. Anyway, it was the worst fishing I've had in the Uintas but the scenery was nice.
