Hey all I'm interested in begining Spear fishing. I was curious to see if anyone here new of a shop or person that happens to sell spearguns? I have looked around and it seems niether Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops sell them. I have all the other gear needed just cant find a store that supplies the weapon.
Also is there any tips anyone can give me that will help me in starting up. My plan at the moment is to start at Lost Creek, or another boatless body of water just to practice is there anywhere anyone would suggest?
Thanks in advance

I think you are on the wrong forum for that information. Most of the guys on here don't exactly see eye to eye with spear fishermen.

I know some guys on here dislike Spear fishermen. But I also know most of them are decent guys that wont send a teen into danger by being unexperience *I am eighteen*
I made this account because I know that some of you are not fans of us. I have another that I ask my real fishing info and crawdading info on.
But I know for a fact that there will be a decent guy to honestly give me some info and tips just for the safety if nothing else.
I am not going to be on of those guys that go in ONLY targeting the huge females or the prize fish. I honestly would rather leave that guy in and have a chance to catch him on my line. This would be more for average fish for a barbeque with friends once in a while

It's not our responsibility but yours to make sure you're safe.

"It's not our responsibility but yours to make sure you're safe. "
Your absolutely correct. It's my job to make sure I'm safe. If I was responsible at all I would get on a site made for people to talk about fish and ask for tips or pointers. Heck maybe I will make a site fully dedicated to fishing. Maybe I'll call it like large fish tackle or something...
waits for him to sense the sarcasm...

[cool][#0000ff]Go to your yellow pages...paper or online...and look for Skin Diving. There are lots of shops that provide not only all the gear you need...and most will sell a variety of spearfishing gear...but instruction as well. Sounds like you might already have some diving experience.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I no longer dive (ear problems and age) but I used to combine my loves of fishing and spearfishing. Lots of enjoyment. It is not like politics or religion. You can be either or both without having to make a choice of one or the other. And you can learn a lot of things underwater that can help with your angling pursuits as well.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Good luck in your search. PM me if you need help with finding a dive shop in your area. I know of at least one good one in Salt Lake that has spearfishing gear.[/#0000ff]

if your doing it legally have a blast! sure alot of folks around here might give you a smug look if they see you doing it but who cares, its your thing not theirs. as far as advice i wouldnet have any, although google can be your best friend....
oh yea, about the comment that went something like "its not our responsibility but yours" (or close to it), it is indeed mine, yours, this persons responsibility... if the dude is diving and the flag is flying and you decide to zip past his boat as fast as you can is it his fault hes underwater and you ran him over?

I spear fish every year (legally), divers-supply.com has the best deals around from a beginners pole splear to quality spear guns. I love fishing, but spear fishing has got to be some of the hardest most satisfying fishing out there.
