I have a cuda 300 (not the best fish finder but it did do it's job). Anyway, lately, the 7 pin connector (I think it's 7 pin, don't remember) is very touchy. If I just the cables, the unit would power down.
After examining the cables, I notices some of the pins were badly bent. So I straightened them the best I could. The unit now powers back up, and so far it doesn't appear to shut of if I touch the or bump the cables.
My question is. I did the repair on the fish finder at home... when I plug in the sonar (not in water) nothing appears on the screen... ie, ground/arches and the depth seems to be fix at a 53 FT. Is my sonar ruined? or do they usually not work out of water. I'm not going to be at a lake this week to test it... but would like to know if my finder is broke before I go fishing.
Thanks...
