Oneida reports?
#1
Has anyone fished Oneida in the past week? I was wondering if they are still working on the dam....and if the water is still low above it. It was a bit tough to get my boat out about a month ago. I'm trying to decide where to camp this weekend. Any info would be awesome.
Thanks!

Nothing from nobody? I was hoping you'd get a "hit". Someone was "telling" me that's a good hole find the "eyes" at. Tried chasing some at Willard last night, but no go. Hmmph.

Hope someone has some news for ya.

I haven't been up there since the 11th. That was right after some nasty cold fronts. I only caught one eye of about 15" and a few smaller smallmouth. It's been hot ever since, so I'm sure things have changed since then. I know the largemouth fishing in the area has picked up a lot since then, so I'm focusing on them until next weeks cold weather, and then I'll probably go check out the walleye and smallies.

Thanks for the replies guys! Might have to just go up and check it out. I missed a nice SMB Sunday(my guess around 16-18"). I was kitty kattin in the Cutler area and that thing smashed my 2/0 gobbed with nightcrawlers it shot out of the water like a torpedo and spit the hook!lol Fun stuff! Would be nice to catch a decent eye this weekend. Haven't caught one over 20" this season.DRAT!..I agree the LMB have been exceptionally fun this year! Thanks Again!
Wonder what Twin is doing?

I hit Twin Thursday. Water is way low but crystal clear. I fished about four hours and caught 20 bass and 5 trout. Most of the bass were 12", the trout 14". I saw some larger bass, but they were really spooky as it was dead calm with bright sun and they could see me pretty well. I saw some nice gills, crappie and perch, but I didn't try too hard for them as I was in a bass mood. The gills were body slamming my bass bug, so I imagine that if I had brought my 3 wt and some dry flies or small poppers I would have had a bluegill heyday.

Thanks gstott! I did not go to Oneida but camped at Twin instead...funny thing you posted after I was gone. Beautiful weekend no wind or water skiiers! All the species were playin. I did notice those bigger bass just a nosin my presentations and spook off like you said. I finally put on a spinner and had a few takers.... but when I switched to pop gear slow trolled and SCHMACK ATTACK with the trout, perch and bass. Non stop action the whole weekend! I did notice if I twitched and jerked my rod while trolling I caught the bass and perch. Fun weekend!

It is kinda fun with a floating grasshopper or minnow to just twich it and watch the bass come up and stare at your lure. Start jerking really erratically and they suddenly dart forward and grab it.

I can see twitching while trolling being really good for getting the fish to finally attack.

Thanks Bardic! Silly me!... I thought of catchin some hoppers while trudging up to the out house!lol I remember great times with them! This summer one great time at LaMont.... All I can say about that outing was HUNGRY fishies!!!...My rod was layin over my leg with a Hopper above the water about 6".....as I'm reachin for a snack...a LMB shot out of the water next to the boat and snatched my hopper! I darn near lost my rod!lol I just luv to fish!
Thanks again!

Yes, you can still launch boats. I saw several different boats of different sizes launch.

Once I stopped trying to sight fish to the fish and made long casts with a little 2.5" deep diving Lucky Craft and a small Daiwa square bill crank things really picked up for me. I wonder how this cold weather is effecting the fish. If the bluegill are still up in the weeds I would be really tempted to go back and try my 3wt. There's just not enough time to fish everywhere I want to fish before the snow flies.

I often get a hit when I pause a retrieve, give it chance to drop right in their face. Sometimes a tug tug tug forward, then let it drop back. Grabbing the line and just jerking it a bit too. Make it wiggle, make it dance.

Sounds like ya had some good camping and fishing. Nice that the weather held until Sunday. Barely got off Willard in time to miss the monsoon. But got my first CuttyKitty - still waiting for the elusive Walleye - but they should be getting more active as waters cool, right?

Yeah, I'm usually pretty good about convincing them to hit, but they were just way too cautious that day. It was one of those days where you could clearly see the bottom in 8-10 feet of the water, I'm sure they could see me too.
