Duchesne River...Spin rod fisherman gone to the dark side.
#1
I'm an avid spin rod fisherman! I fish at least 2 - 4 times a week, mostly at lakes, targeting different species of fish. When I say mostly, i really mean I mostly fish lakes! About two years ago, I went out and spent a truck of cash on fly gear. I just haven't seemed to get in any rhythm, but really enjoy fly fishing nonetheless. I have become really preoccupied with my spin reel targeting walleye, bass, trout, panfish, and catfish. Therefore, I really have not spent much time on any rivers.

Well......here's my chance....

I have a good friend who has a cabin right on the Duchesne river in Hannah, UT. We are headed up this weekend and are going to spend a fair amount of time on the river. I have fished the Provo a bit and know basics for fishing there. However, I have slim to zero knowledge about the Duchesne River. Being the spin rod fisherman that I am, I figure I could just rig up a treble hook and through some power bait on my hook. I know that's something you fly guys can appreciate, right? NO..just playing...lol...

If anyone would be kind enough to share any knowledge they may have about the Duchesne, it would be greatly appreciated. Techniques, what to use, anything useful....Thanks in advance!

I would say whatever worked on the Provo should work.
Beautiful stretch of water though. I did great with RED copper johns and brown PMX

Time of year to try streamers and given the warm weather throw some nice big terrestrials on top. Some real nice Browns in there. What ever you do stay out of the Hanna Hilton past midnight[Wink]

I thought he said that is what he is using...spinning. I am trying to figure out what is the Darkside of this post....a river?

And I thought Darkside meant BAMBOO. Another one of those ONE WORD and so many different meanings...[cool]

Try calling the "local" fishing stores. Vernal is as close to Hanna as you will get. [Wink]

That's what I meant. He is a spin fisherman learning to fly fish and the post is called spin rod fisherman gone to the dark side. I figured it meant fly fishing was the dark side. I can't talk though, I do spin fish a lot for warm water species, though a big bass blowing up on a bass bug is hard to beat in my book.
