Hey a buddy has a cabin in island park this weekend. Ive been invited along. Ive never been there but know its supposed to be unbelievable trout fishing. Im not a flyfisherman. Was wondering if I should take my boat, fish island park or Henry's lake and any other helpful information anyone can give. Thanks for any advice

We fished the river just below big springs and above Macs Inn using spinners and did very well on the brookies last time up there a couple years ago. I believe nice big whities as well so small flies on the bottom worked good too.
Make sure to take the time to go to Big Springs. The river is off limits to fishing because it is all spawing beds, but at the bridge u can see huge fish just hanging out. People feed them bread and they come up and pound it. We threw a couple of full worms to them and they didn't even look at it. Must have been eating bread and cookies way too long. Good life for a fish I suppose.
Careful for the moose though... I had a buddy get chased by one and he dropped his gear and climbed a tree to get outa the way.... funny as hell after all said and done. Never the less be careful.

I would bring your boat if you are going to be hitting Henry's lake. This is a great time for fishing either the lake or the outlet. It is best if you bring fly fishing gear.... I have had great success on the rivers during the month of October.

I have fished up there my entire life I love Island Park! In the past I have had lots of luck trolling Island Park reservoir using panther martins, caught lots baitfishing henry's outlet, and have had an all around good time. Though I love flyfishing, you definitely don't need a fly rod to catch anything. If you have panther martins, worms, and salmon eggs, that will go a long ways in a lot of places. As far as henry's lake I actually haven't fished it, but I know that people often use leech patterns (try a fly and bubble maybe[crazy]) There is alot of great water to fish up there, so you are in for a treat. Let us know how it is!
