Today I went with my father in law to East Canyon. We had heard reports of the crazy action going on there and wanted to go check it out. We launched slightly before 8. I had made my own "trolling rig" by tying two panther martins together along with a small baithook containing salmon eggs. My father in law was using a crankbait. I caught my first fish about 15 minutes in, a beautiful rainbow that was about 16 inches and was fat. I caught two more little guys shortly afterwards. Caught one more keeper. Things began slowing down and trolling was no longer producing. We tried jigging spoons, which didn't work. Began trolling again but alas the doldrums continued. After finding a big school of fish we decided to bait fish. I was using corn power bait, and had one nibble but I didn't hook him. However, while my bait was in the water I caught at least four on a panther martin which is hands down the most effective spinner in my opinion. This was at about 1. We had to get going though, so I brought home about 3 keepers, and let go alot more. It was a fun day, and a much needed reprieve for this overworked college student. I put up two pictures one of the fish I kept and the other of a little albino I caught. I included him because those darn things always follow spinners but seem to have a hard time biting, so it felt satisfying to catch one[]
