Starvation and Current Creek Report
#1
Found this site awhile back and have found it very useful. Hit Starvation (Rabbit Gulch) Friday morning with the family; first time ever to fish this lake. Not much luck from shore. I took the float tube out in hopes of some Perch. Had a couple jigs tipped with small piece of worm that I dragged around off my tube while a cast with a lucky craft pointer with my other rod. After a couple hours caught 0 perch but at least caught two rainbow trout, one 19 inches the other 16 inches. I was targeting Perch but happy with the two trout, both put up a good fight.

Decided to hit Current Creek in the afternoon to hopefully get my 5 year old girl a fish. Wife took the tube out first and caught 1 cutt and 1 rainbow on the lucky craft pointer. I then took the tube out and caught two rainbows on my fly rod using a wholly bugger. Nothing two big, the cutt was maybe 15 inches. Only a couple bites from shore on the worm/marshmellow combo for my little girl but others on shore caught a few small fish. Very pleasant day and seems like a good place to catch a few fish from shore.

I have caught a lot of trout this summer but would like to find some success with Perch on open water. I thought jigs tipped with worm would be the ticket, I used a double drop shot with two different jig colors. I would be very appreciative if anyone could provide any guidance. Do I deadstick or slow retrieve for perch? Do I fish the bottom or weeds? Or maybe time of year is a big part of finding success with Perch. I know Starvation, Pineview, Deer Creek, and Hyrum have healthy population of Perch but have not had much luck. Any advice or guidance would be very much appreciated! I don't have a boat but enjoy fishing from shore or my float tube. Thanks!

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. Glad you got a couple of those rowdy rainbows at Bunny Gulch but sorry the perch didn't wanna play. Not surprised. It can be pretty tough after the first of October. Once the water cools a bit the perch and walleyes head for deeper water and are tough to find and catch. But they will be back in force by about the first of June next year. Watch the reports.[/#0000ff]

Thanks TubeDude! I'll hit Starvation again in June in hopes of some Perch.
