Got there about 930am i was surprised to see a little bit of surfface action. I already had a caddis tied on from a couple days ago so i gave it a try. No takers so i went to a bwo, got a quick hit but missed it. stuck with that a while but never got any more action on a dry. Went with a BH prince and a olive green sow bug. couldn't keep the whities off of it! had tons of fun with them.A fish is a fish to me, but my time was getting short and I was really itching for some browns so i switched up to a olive BH hares ear and did my best to avoid anymore white fish. finally got one tiny brown. Not sure why i had so much trouble with the browns but had a blast.

I don't know what my problem is I fished upstream a few miles and wanted a limit of whitefish for the smoker. I caught 27 browns, 1 cut and no white fish. Fished BHP, BHHE, and scuds. I really want some smoked whitefish.
All browns were under 14" and they were stacked thick in the few deeper holes I passed.

try something flashier for the whitties like a very flashy copper john or a lightning bug, both about size 18 to 20

Thanks, I'll try that. I have had good success with a small brown scud but not this fall.

I was up in that area last weekend and the browns were still hitting on SJ worms. Somehow I forgot most of my flys at home and the SJ was what worked the best. I caught 6 browns with it in about 2 hrs of fun.

I really only fished 2 holes. Maybe they just had a higher concentration of white fish. Or..... maybe im just a rookie.
Seems like everyone talks about cooking white fish in a smoker. Why is that?

Honestly I think they taste just like trout, the difference for me is I can keep 10 whities avereging 1-2 pounds, add that to 4 fat rainbows out of the local lake and I can fill the smoker without breaking possession limit laws. In my opinion you can smoke just about any fish and make them taste great.
