Streamers

I've wanted to start learning how to fish with streamers and was wondering if anyone had any good advice or videos or sites that may have some good info on fishing with streamers? I'd like to try fishing some on the Weber this Friday and curious if anyone has any suggestions on what streamers may be good for the Weeb?

KellyGalloup from Slide Inn Fly Shop in Montana has some great videos on throwin' streamers. Not sure if you can find him much on youtube or not though. There was a chain of posts/messages just a week or two on here that people were throwing their two cents in. Check either of those out.

This link was helpful and I did see that post after I had posted mine. I still have a few questions, mainly about the setup.

1- Do you guys usually throw them on a wet or dry line?

2- Do you put any weight on your line or fly?

3- Any good "general" streamer patterns for the Weeb?

I first off wanted to offer, Netflix carries Kelly's DVD's.
I use a Type II on like Kelly. I have fish streamers with a dry line if the streamer is weighted.

I fish allot of stillwater and prefer the line to put the fly in the zone, so I rarely fish weighted flies. MUCH easier to cast too.

I use a sinking leader. You will find them in the Spey area of the fly shops. They loop to loop just like a mono taper (or furled thanks to F-Godess). Add a short tippet and viole'. I use that set up because it is flexible on the river and I can carry only 1 spool. On still water I use a type 2 or 3 full sinking. But I suck on still waters.

As for the lfy choice. Oh there are many options. Why do you think Streamer guys have that freaky facial tick? Try flashy buggers and Muddlers to start. After that go get your wallet and head the the fly shop. Streamers can be $5.00 each for a good one.

I throw both but prefer a sinking/wet line.

I almost never weight my fly. I sometimes weight my line when I am fishing a dry line and want the fly to swim deeper than it would w/o weight.

3- Any good "general" streamer patterns for the Weeb?

Mohair leeches, wooly buggers, no one kind/type works every week/day up there. Good luck and let us know how you did.

For flowing waters I like a floating line with a sinking Spey Leader. It makes it easier to rip it off the water to recast and mend, but gets the fly in a feeding zone. So, for me it's about line control.

For still water full sinking. Hell you just huck a bunch of line and strip it in anyway. All the while sitting on your toon... maybe that is why I suck at still waters. Joni... HELP.. Yea, yea I know you've tried and I have no showed.
