Has anyone seen or heard anything about the Marcum showdown ice troller? I am thinking about getting one this year and it seems to have good reviews and it looks like it would be easier to use and cheaper that a regular flasher.

It does look easy to use. I know that many people had problems with them when they first came out. Now that Marcum is marketing them I am sure they have worked the kinks out.
I like the price point. I guess negatives would be that it is in grey scale.
I like the colors on my vex.[cool]

I have not heard of that but I have a handheld finder called a Hawkeye. It is a unit about the size of a handheld gps and 25' or so of wire then the transducer. I use it for some of my fishing in the summer where I can throw out the wire and transducer, (there is a float for the transducer on the wire you can adjust) and the depth is very accurate for sure and I think the fish on it show up fairly accurate. I have tried it side by side with my Humminbird and Cuda which are mounted on my kayaks and it shows fish on it same as those. Does not show any difference between big or little fish tho, just fish. I have had a harder time picking up my lure on it tho. It does have sensitivity adjustments, backlight, shows bottom make up and other stuff. Battery life is excellent, 3 AAA's, and went all summer on two sets. It does not work when moving/trolling. You need to be still.. For some of the fishing I do I just throw it out and know how deep and if weeds or rocks and if fish are around. I think it would work great for ice fishing and if I remember right is less than 100 bucks. All would fit in a parka pocket and there you go.

My brother owns a Showdown and loves it. He used it all last winter and had no complaints except for not being able to catch all the fish he saw on the screen! I am a Vexilar owner and we have used them side by side and have had little issues with interference. For the price I think you can't go wrong........There is nothing quite like watching the fish swim up to your bait before you feel the bite!!!!

Thanks for the replies. I think they have me hooked, I think that I will buy one and I will give a report on how it works next spring.
