two off the wall questions....
#1
I am trying to save money and have decided to make my own rod tubes and rod tube holder (rack)... I have a basic idea of how to do the tubes but not sure on the rack..

I have searched on line for plans on the rack and keep coming up empty... sooooo

Have any of you done either one of these projects and if so how did you do it... were you able to get plans on line or if you have your own plans would you care to share them ?

Rod tubes -- lightest pvc or alum. tubing you can find. Pvc is easiest.
Sew up a sock for the rod to go in first.

Is the rack for a garage wall? Or to transport like in a truck?

If you want it on the wall, I would think of something along the lines of a pool cue rack only make it larger to hold the tubes. You might even go for two sections with different heights if you have some pack rods too.

The racks Im thinking about are like this..

rod rack or this second rod rack but did see this one that I had never seens before...

but FG's 20 gal drum idea intrigues me.. hopefully she will post pictures... :-)

The wall rack looks like a nice simple one to make, or you could go with some thing made for guns. Do you have a lot of rods to get out of the way or organize? Do you want to mount them on the wall? ceiling? or floor?

The wall one is nice but I like the first one and a good price. But, We have a few rods
Right now it is actually about a 33 gal. Like these:

But it is in the garage. The first one you posted would be in the house set up.

the wall rack does look simple and I had thought about a gun rack type set up...

I dont think I want my rod tubes hanging on the wall more like on the floor against a wall.. either flat or in the corner....

right now I have four rods with a fifth on the way in the future...

I want something nice but fucntional.. LOL..

drill, and a table saw and you could have the first one in not too much time, whould be realatively easy to make.

dato the side boards (cut a groove in them) for the two holder pieces to slid into, clamp the top and bottom holder pieces together, drill them all the way through, Glue a piece to your bottom member to keep the rods from falling through it and assemble. Prob take a guy 3 maybe 4 hours total to do.

Cabela's has this one on sale now.

http://www.cabelas.com/...2526type%253Dproduct

Pretty easy design to make if you already have a hole saw etc. If you want really nice wood, it might cost you as much to make it as to buy, if you have to include the cost of a hole saw bit for your drill and so on.
