We fished Scofield with a group of 4 on Saturday. We caught 15 to 20 fish per person. We fished from 645 to 1030. Most fish we caught on green and glow sz 10 rat finkees below a kastmaster. Used a pink and glow sz 10 ratfinkee and white ice cutr as well. Fishing was best in 16' of water. Wax worms were better then meal worms. Most fish were planter size rainbows. Ice was 5" .

Cowboy-
I have never fully understood the setup of fishing something beneath something else. In theory I get it but would it be a terrible burden for you to take a picture of your setup, or something similar, and post it or PM it to me? I would really appreciate it.
Great report, by the way.
EDIT: I did see the rig in the one picture but I thought maybe you could lay it out straight so it's more visible. Thanks again!

I use this rig almost everywhere I fish. I use almost exclusively rat finkees and change the colors up depending on the lake. Usually use one with glow in it. I prefer a gold kastmaster with swivels on both ends. 6 to 8 inches of leader.

I fish the same way , but I leave the hook on the spoon . You would be surprized how many fish hit the spoon . I tip the hook on the spoon with a little bait . Some Times two jigs below the spoon . I don't know what the law in Utah is but in Idaho we can have up to 5 hooks per line . Curt G.

Thanks for the pics Cowboy. Helps a lot to see it up close. I'm adding these little rigs to my arsenal one by one. Slowly but surely I'll get there. I guess that's how we all have to do it though, eh? Thanks again.

5 hooks per line? Wow! Heck, I'd be happy with 3! The current regs only allow for two hooks per line. Here's what the proclamation says:
"No line may have attached to it more than: two baited hooks, two artificial flies or two artificial lures. The only exceptions to this rule are if you’re using a setline or you’re fishing at Flaming Gorge Reservoir or Lake Powell."

Yup - two hooks in Utah. But I've wondered how they count that. If you have a lure - minnow/fish pattern and it has two treble hooks - does that count as one hook or to?
Meaning my big-log-fat rainbow pattern lure with three treble hooks - does that still count as one lure?
Seen some Walleye rigs that involved a swivel leading to an "upper lure" or hook, with a swivel above the first leading to a lower lure, or hook (worm harness). But some of those setups involved a rapala - with two trebles.
I'm taking the philosophy that it's a single lure OR hook setup attached to the line counts as one - even if the lure has two hooks, or a worm harness has two or three - it's stll a "single presentation". I may be wrong, and am sure someone will let me know if I am.
We used to perch fish in Florida with a string of maybe 10 little golden hooks. Hardly even had to use any bait - they went after the shiny hooks!
Curious - do you sweeten your finky's? A little worm, grub, perch eye? I like some of Maniac Lures glowy plastics. Some little grubby buggy looking things. Almost like a spider. I've setup a couple spoons with a finky, or other small glower below. But I tip the spoon - with hook - with a glow bug and something sweet to eat.
Thing about two offerings - is you get two presentations at two different depths. OR you can use the spoon simply as an attractor. I love this underwater CAM video. It shows you how the Perch react to different presentations - churning up the mud, raising it above, dangling it right in their face.
I had to laugh when a big-one and a little-one go after the same lure, and the big one ends up with little stuck in his mouth - a bit too much to chew on, but fun to watch!

Your assessment is correct. This is from the same section in the proclamation: "No artificial lure may have more than three hooks."
So if your Rapala has 2 treble hooks on it, it still only counts as 1 lure, meaning that you could attach a second lure/fly if you wanted to.

[#000000]That's interesting, I've never really thought about it before, but I have some cranks that have 3 trebles on them. Sounds like they're perfectly legal though. So if Powell is different, how is it different?[/#000000]
[#000000][/#000000]
[#000000]BTW, a trick I use sometimes is to tie on a Kastmaster or Swedish Pimple on the bottom, with a baited hook, and tie on a dropper just above it with a small plain treble hook, baited of course. Sometimes if the fish are very finicky, they'll take the tiny treble even if they don't want a jig or spoon. [/#000000]

All of the info can be found in the proclamation here.
At Lake Powell, you can use 3 hooks per line:
"No line may have more than 3 baited hooks or more than 3 lures."
