Settlement Canyon, Tooele
#1
Fished Settlement with my bro today. Looks like we were the first to try it, I did not see any other holes poked. The edges were thin for the first 18". The ice was 3-3.5 inches in spots and thinner in others. It is about 98% frozen, with only the inlets showing open water. The top half looks like possible frozen slush. Overall, not sure if we should have been out there and if you plan to venture out, be careful! As the sun warmed the top started to melt. No cracks or pops, which I hear is a bad thing on ice. We stayed very close to shore to be on the safe side.

We did okay. I caught 1 brown, 2 tigers, 1 bow and 3 chubs. My bro caught 1 tiger, 1 bow and 1 chub. None of them had any size to them (typical of the lake). All in all, a nice first ice trip, close to home. No pics, sorry. Any Tooele'ns have a Grantsville report?

Thanks,
Chris

Great report.

"No cracks or pops, which I hear is a bad thing on ice. "

Sometimes, but sometimes cracks are good. Clear ice cracking and growing is ok. Some of the way thinck (12"+) ice cracks and pops all of the time....can be freeky, but good. The early ice (slush) wont crack before breaking and there is little warning before you are in the water. The harder clear ice will ususlly show you that you are not wanted.

Glad you had a great day out on the water, good to hear another lake is becoming solid. That Res is a great one for those looking to stock up on chubs for the next year.
