Frabil has been making gear to support fishing for years. Ice houses and nets were their entry points. That is a lot of money to spend on a reel and rod for ice fishing for all but a few species of fish in large sizes. I have over a hundred ice rods and each has a reel on it. Average price was right around $10.00. I prefer the level wind type reel to the hay bailer as it is never effected by cold or moisture like the more complicated bail type reels. Also the line doesn't tend to come off in loops or get twisted as it does with the open face reels.
For deep jigging for macs I have sturdier rods and run my old Shimano Calcutta 251's on them. Still level wind tech but I'm able to fight fish in the 20lb. range without much concern. This kind of tech is way overkill for most of the trout, kokes and panfish we generally chase.

I have a Frabill net, and its the best big-fish net I've ever owned. No experience with their rods and reels.

Yeah, Frabill has been around for a long time. They make things like nets, minnow buckets, fishing tents, and that kind of stuff. I don't think I've ever seen a rod or reel with their name on it, but I've heard they've expanded their line a lot in the last few years.
They recently started selling fishing outerwear, which I've heard good things about. As long as you don't mind being a walking advertisement. The ice suit has big ass logos running right up the outside of the leg.

Frabill has been around a long time. I do have a few ice rods that are Frabill's and have had no problems. I use 2 lights and an ultra light Frabill along with my 2 Ugly Stik mediums. Not real keen on their reels, but the rods have been fine.

I was going to say. I like their rods, but don't like their reels all that much. I prefer to find sales on reels and buy the ones that I really want rather then buying the combo deals. Sometimes I can find good reels for $10 or so.

I have one of their rubber mesh landing nets for trout mainly, and I really like it. No more getting hooks stuck in the mesh, and it's a lot easier on the fish too.
