My Dad and I went halfs on a Humminbird ice 45 and wanted to try it out before we headed up to Henrys tomorrow. So we went to the pond in Shelley for about an hour and each caught a nice brown. The Humminbird worked awesome, I just hope the fish cooperate for us tomorrow.

If you take the Shelley exit off I-15 and head towards Shelley right after you cross the river it will be on your left. Its actually not a pond since its connected to the river, but there is no current.

Do new fish swim into that pond or do they get caught out pretty fast? I need to catch a brown and haven't caught very many threw the ice.

It's pretty shallow where the river enters it so I imagine that it would freeze shut fairly easily allowing only a small number in there, but I could be wrong. I've never fished it once Ririe freezes over but it may be worth a shot.

Ive fished it with no luck, not even a bite, and I know others the same way. From what I have seen its a very ify spot and not a lot taken from it for some reason. Maybe wrong, but have talked to a lot of folks fishing it and tough to fish. But good luck on it.

If its 40 foot, then Ive been fishing the wrong pond, lol, seriously, I havent found a 40ft spot anywhere there and ive fished it off an on now for over 6 years and never found a 40 footer. I think its filled in some. Im not that far from it and talked to a lot of folks fishing it. I know it used to be a gravel pit till the bank was breached and became part of the river and access to it opened up.

The closer to the road you are the deeper it is. It gets over 20 feet in a few spots, maybe there are some deeper holes I haven't found yet. Have you ever caught any perch there? I've heard there are some but all I've caught are browns, white fish, and rainbows.

The best Browns I have caught through the ice have been at Big Elk Creek fishing jigging right off the bottom

Unfortunately it is not frozen yet. Still waiting for good ice there.

Are you sure about it not being frozen? The reason I ask is because I pass it while I'm at work and it's had ice for almost a month now. I also have second hand reports of some guys fishing it and doing quite well with the kokes. It's one of those places I would like to try this ice season.

I don't know about 40 feet either, but on the marcum flasher I have seen 24 ft readings closer to the road end of it and on the Shelly side of the pond. As for fish I have yet to find a perch although I keep hearing about them. I have caught browns, whitefish, rainbows (one REALLY big one) and some bass (although never in winter). Either way, I like that it's close and it does have the chance for good size fish. All the fish I've caught this time of year have been on or near the bottom.
