Walcot Ice
#1
Fished Lake Walcot yesterday. Caught two - one small trout 8 in., and one real nice 19 in fat trout. Three of us fished four hours, real slow. About 9 to 10 inches of ice off to the left of the boat ramp about 150 yards. -4 when we arrived and 12 when we left.

I was wondering what the difference is between this year and last? Last year it seems like there was a lot of really good reports from Walcot with a lot of really big fish caught? Are there any obvious changes that have lead to the slow fishing this year?

I fish Minidoka alot. My theory, and only a theory, the fishing is real slow this early in the ice fishing season because of all the open water. Unitl it got cold recently there was lots of open water and I think the fish hung around it. Now that it is going to freeze over, I think the fishing will get better. Just be careful heading away from shore because of the recent open water.

I went fishing 1/7/11. I looked at the water flow report. They are dumping a ton of water in and out of the dam. The ice has a huge fracture running north and south that is very unstable. Anyone that is headed out needs to real careful.
