You can call me TheBigWorm, or you can call me Scott. Let's see, in addition to being into fishing (as I'm guessing everyone else here is), I'll share two other things about me...
1. I resolved this year to spend at least half an hour outside everyday (not counting car time). It's easy on the weekends, but Sadly tougher than I though on weekdays because of a thing called work.
2. I also recently got into "rock stacking". It's a form of "temporary art" that anyone can do, though some of us do it a lot better than others. Smile If you want to see something cool (at least in my humble opinion) go to google images and search for balanced rocks.

welcome to the site Scott... what part of socal do you call home waters and what type of fish is your preferred target...

Hey MacFly,
Santa Barbara is my home and it has lots of ocean fishing. As for my "preferred" fish, I'm not picky... any fish that will get on my hook. Smile Pulling up a lingcod is pretty cool though!

but those things are so damn ugly... LOL... a few years back my son in law and I took a guided day of fishing san diego bay and off of point loma... first fish he caught was a ling cod.. was eerie at times when I would catch a glimpse of the thing staring at me..LOL... but have to say the spotted bay bass in the back bay off of the naval station was awesome... we eventually got run off by seals in training but it was a great day of fishing...

Lingcod are pretty damn ugly... or extremely cool looking if you have six year old son. They have an amazing set of teeth. They're also tough to catch, at least in my experience.

that was the only one we got all day.. but we got lots of other fish so was a good day and worth the money...

as I said the spotted bay bass were the most fun.. we would drift over them and then go at it... then reposition and drift over them again.. could of kept that up all day.. :-)..

Last year while fishing the upper Santa Ana River I came across small stacks of rocks which got a rise in my curiosity. Thought that some wannabe Indians were marking their trail. Should have taken a picture of the groupings. Do some of theses groupings have a special meaning?[/#008000][/font]

I know in scouts they show you how to stack rocks in a certain way as trail markers so people can follow you... but dont remember how to do it.. LOL..

I used to do a lot of backpacking in the Sierras. I saw lots of small rock pile trail markers, and made a few myself. Not quite the same as "rock stacking" for art. With a trail marker you just need a few rocks to make it obvious that it was made by a human, but you also want it to survive, where as with rock stacking you want the pile to be as tall an precarious as possible, and you know it is the definition of temporary.

yes those were good memories... my problem was that I usually got lost even with the trail markers... :-)
