Crappie?
#1
Thanks for the warm welcomes! So me and my ten year old son went pv on sunday and did very well both caught a limit but was un able to catch any crappie I have never caught one and was wondering how to do so any helpful hints would be appreciated! Things like how deep of water are they suspended or what same set up for perch or a total diffrent approach?

A fish finder is a good place to start. They're always suspended it seems. I do not use a fish finder but I will hook into one on occasion while targeting the perch.

The best crappie come from 40+ feet of water. Also don't be afraid to fish at night. I've limited out the past three times I went night fishing at the view. Waxies work better than nightcrawlers.

+1 on the finder. The crappie that I have got have been in 40 out of 60 feet of water and if you were a few inches high they would not even touch the bait. Picky fish. Perch seem to be shallower than the crappie according to most I have spoke with. Also, the bite seems to be early and late/dark for crappie and perch seem to bite all day long.

All the crappie I have caught this year have been suspended in about 40 feet of water and took some jigging to get them to bite (the technique has changed on me several times but still needed movement) and majority were caught early in the morning or just before dark using the same jigs used for perch tipped with a meal worm. I don't have a fish finder but still manage to find them easy enough.
