#1
So I caught this little guy at willard today. It was the only thing I caught (SLOW DAY!!!!). Does anyone know what it is? It doesn't look like anything that's supposed to be in Willard.

nah, there's no spot behind the gills.

I think I figured it out. Emerald shiner.

or so it seems according to this website with a picture: http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/species_...fault.aspx

and this website telling me that they're in Willard: http://dwrcdc.nr.utah.gov/rsgis2/search/...m=notrathe

I didn't know there were any other forage fish in there besides Gizzard Shad.

What a trip! It's hard to tell from the pic but how big was it? Guess you have bait for a later trip now....

Does anyone know they were in Willard?

It was only about 4" long. I cut it up and used it for bait today, and it did nothing to help with the slow day.

Yes the DWR put a few minnows of different kind in Willard but most just never showed up again...
Great food fish for the others..

It is a RED SIDED SHINER minus the red cause it aint spawning time !!! Both the ogden and weber rivers have them and both flow into WILLARD. . [Wink][Wink]

Kewl to see - dang I have some hollow bodies that look JUST like that! So if I can get them in front a wiper, maybe a chance!

Were you at the S. Marina - like when I saw you last time? I've wondered about hitting the main lake, but I'm thinking Pineview is more likely to be nicer to me.

Thanks for the post. Sorry that minnow didn't find a nice cat or walleye!

Yeah I was at the south marina. I was the only guy there today too. I'm not one to make bold predictions about stuff that I know little about but I think it'd be safe to say that the fishing has all but stopped out there. [frown]

I was out there last Friday and only managed one perch, granted it was a monster 12"er, but one fish days kinda suck.

I'm lucky this little guy latched on and wouldn't let go or I would have had my first skunk of the ice season.

I think I'm going to hit Pineview or Causey tomorrow depending on what my buddy wants to fish for.

So it looks like there are quite a few more species of fish in there than I knew about.

Looking at the fish on this website the fish I caught today could actually have been a spottail shiner. The blue iridescant scales down the side look more like the spottail than the emerald.
