Utah Lake Level/Jordan River flows
#1
I work for local government and deal quite a bit with water. I received the following information via e-mail as an FYI for flooding concerns that may occur in the City I work for (river rises so does groundwater). Thought I would pass along the information. I don't know if they are attempting to maintain the lake level or drop it, however if they are dropping the level I would imagine it will affect the ice.

[#00bf00]Commissioner John Larsen indicated he will post the level of Utah Lake on our web site each day for the next two weeks. He indicated Utah Lake is now 0.33 ft below compromise elevation (4489.045 ft). They now plan to open the gates on Feb 11, but that date could change if necessary. [/#00bf00]

[#00bf00]The commissioner makes a substantial effort to notify everyone of the opening of the gates as requested. We thank him for his coordination and reporting efforts to maintain the lake operation according to the established agreements. [/#00bf00]

[#00bf00]Last year when the gates were opened the flow of the Jordan River increased to about 900 cfs. We expect about the same flows this year.[/#00bf00]

[#00bf00]The following instructions may help us answer concerns or questions from anyone concerned about the operation of Utah Lake and the Jordan River. The gates continue to be lifted with a crane, but there are plans to upgrade the automated controls within the next couple years.[/#00bf00]

[#00bf00]The daily lake level is available to the public on the water rights web page as soon as they are officially reported by the commissioner.
