Never really bothered to learn all the different chubs and other fish that I wasn't targeting, but I caught a couple of these on Gem Lake today and this one was pretty good sized. I think its either a Chislemouth, Utah Chub, or some type of white fish. Depending on what species it is, it may be a record[shocked]. I also caught a 19" brown down there today, only fished for 2 hours.
WARNING HUGE FILES. I thought the better detail would be helpful.

No, I don't believe it is a chisel mouth. I'm going to guess it is some kind of whitefish. The mouth doesn't look quite like the mountain whitefish we have around here. But a chiselmouth has a hard boney thing in is mouth, that one looks very soft, almost sucker like. I'm pretty sure that is a Lake Whitefish.

There isn't any hard boney thing in its mouth, so its probably a white fish. I don't know if I've ever caught a chisel mouth before, but this fish has a fairly soft mouth.

Looks like a white fish to me. You can catch a boat load of them below the Gem Lake Dam drifting a crawler.

Looks like a whitefish to me. Appears to be beat up a bit and maybe starved, but the mouth is right and the body is right, for a whitefish.

Come you guys, I'm surprised. [shocked] Rocky Mountain whitefish found a lots of rivers. lakes etc. in many states around us. Very common in some major rivers.

White fish it is. I've never caught one that big before so I thought maybe it was something different. From the descriptions and pictures there isn't a whole lot of difference between it and a Utah chub tho.
I hear white fish are good smoked, any body have any experience smoking them?

Lots of meat, I remember that.
Someone here should have a good brine and all that.
I know if you like how they turn out, you can get into them pretty good at times and catch lots. I have heard they are trout egg thieves.

Whitefish for sure and one of the best smokers around. Nothing like a bucket of these guys. One of the few fish I still brine to smoke. Simple salt brine, enough salt to float an egg. Soak 4 -8 hrs depending on temp, fish size and preference. Smoke em up with your favorite chips and enjoy.
