Lake Mead Striper Fishing
#1
Just got back from Las Vegas and enjoyed spending time with family and checking out what Vegas has to offer. Fished Lake Mead every morning and caught stripers on the boils. You think Willard can get hectic on boils you should fish Lake Mead. The best fresh water combat fishing this side of the Mississippi. Here's a link to the report on southernman's Nevada Board: Lake Mead Fishing Report

Your first link worked fine for me. That is a nice bunch of fish BLM but question is, do they fight like a wiper? WH2

A wiper may fight a little better but the larger stripers we caught (3-5 lbs) can strip a little line too. As you well know, it's all good.

Looks like too much fun!!! Is there a no limit on strippers at Mead, like on Powell??? I was on mead doing some water sport recreation last year. At the marina, I believe it was echo bay, you looked off the side of the dock, seen monster carp and about 4 feet below them was these whitish silver darts about 24-30 inches in length. I talked to a guy getting ready to go out and get some strippers, he said the largest ones in the lake are right under the dock we were standing on, but cant fish there!!! [Sad] So he was off to the open water!!! I am really looking forward to the chance to get some strips. Is the presentation for them alot like fishing for wipers??? all shad presentation????

Polokid, you can fish stripers tons of ways but we only boil fished this time of year in Mead. We used Storm Wildeye 4" swimbaits in pearl, chartreuse, and shad colors. They have a single hook for fast unhooking so you can get your bait back into the water. Treble hooks are out of the question for that type of fishing. Takes too long to get multiple hooks out of a fish's mouth. If you're lucky, you can hoist the fish out of the water and drop it fairly hard on the deck of the boat and a lot of times the hook pops loose and you can immediately cast out again.

Later in the year, the shad will start moving into the coves and you can cast net them and fish live bait. You can also use the shad to jig with using Kast Masters, Spinnows, or Buzz Bombs.

The F&G say there are over 1 MILLION fish in that lake right now that could break the state record striper. There are lots of stripers in Mead but the limit is (I think) 20 fish.

southernman, no go on the Rio Buffet. It would of cost my brother $160 to take his family there so we bagged it for Appleby's. We did go to the Green Valley Ranch Station Casino. That is one of the nicest casinos I've been in. When that place's landscape matures it will be beautiful. They also have a killer theater with nice reclining louge seats. We went and saw "Open Range" with Kevin Costner.
