Floating the South Fork Question
#1
Has anyone floated the stretch from Twin Bridges to Lorenzo, or from Lorenzo to Menan recently? I want to take a pontoon down one of those stretches and want to know what obstacles might be there. Just so there is no confusion, I am talking the South Fork of the Snake.

I have floated it twice so far his year last time on the 13Th. Only problem spot is about 1 mile down from twin depending with channel you take. If you go to the right there is a big cotton wood tree that has fallen over 3/4 of the river not a problem too get around it if you watch for it but if you see it too late it wont be pretty. I have not taken the left channel yet this year it was kinda sketchy last time I took it. If you go keep a eye out there are a lot of tree's ready to fall and the river can change over night. That big cottonwood tree was not in the river my previous trip.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Have you floated to Menan yet this year?

No I haven't floated to Menan. If you go let us know how you do.

I have not been as far as Menan this year either, but the stretch from the confluence to the take out can be a bugger on a windy day. One day last year it was very windy and the waves were huge, if I didn't have my motor, I would still be there.

Yeah wind = lameness when you are drifting. Still not sure what stretch we will float, but probably Twin Bridges to Lorenzo. Thanks again for the responses.

Have you floated this stretch before . This is probably the most dangerous section of the river . It can change from day to day . One day clear and the next a tree in the channel you are in . Good luck and be safe . Curt G.
