POACHING CASE IN CANON CITY
#1
CANON CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Division of Wildlife is asking for help solving a poaching crime in Canon City.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 25, a north side resident called police to report a deer lying in a field near Cottonwood Street with an arrow in it. All hunting seasons are over, so whoever shot the deer did so illegally.

"We hope someone who has information or saw any suspicious activity will call us," said DOW Officer Bob Carochi. "Anyone who comes forward with information is eligible for a cash reward from the Division of Wildlife's Operation Game Thief fund."

"Poaching is a serious crime," said Carochi. "It robs all of us of a valuable natural resource - our wildlife. However, if the person or persons who did this come forward and turn themselves in, their cooperation will be taken into consideration."

Anyone with information should call the DOW's Operation Game Thief hotline. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest or a citation. In some cases, people who report wildlife crimes may also be eligible to receive preference points or a future hunting license for the same species.

Callers can contact Carochi at (719) 276-8844 or Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648. Verizon cell phone users can dial #OGT, or contact Operation Game Thief via e-mail at game.thief@state.co.us.
