I don't claim to be an expert bass fisherman. I like all species. I tend to target some species more than others. As a teenager, bass (spotted, largemouth, sandy/white, hybrid, striped) were my main target. I was a huge fan of lipless cranks and rapala crank baits. Usually you are trying to imitate either crawfish or minnows. When using crank baits I would typically choose a red or crawfish colored rat-l-trap or a crawfish colored shad-rap. When the shad would become more plentiful I would switch to a chrome rat-l-trap with either a blue or black back.
I also fished quite a few plastic worms and lizards in black/red flake, motor oil, junebug, and bubblegum. Another option to imitate crawfish is to use a jig and pig but I mainly used those in Texas when fishing heavy moss. There are probably situations at certain bodies of water in Utah where a jig and pig works great. Hopefully some of the Utah bass experts will chime in.

Yum baits makes the best soft plastic crawdad pattern around. They look just like a crawdad and the fish can't help but eat em.

I'm definitely not a bass pro but I love Yamamoto's Hula Grub. I don't know if it's necessarily strictly just a crayfish imitation. I think it can imitate a frog as well. It kills the bass for me down at Powell in the spring. I usually use it in watermelon with a green or black flake. I want to try it in a motor oil or a pumpkin as well.

I definitely agree on the spider jigs. Chompers, Bass Pro Shops and several other companies make good ones too, and they offer them in a smaller 4" size that I like up here in the northern part of the state. Also small beaver style baits have been great for smallies. Jigs with a craw trailer are always a good bet, and even the Rebel crayfish imitating crankbaits have been good to me.

I haven't tried them, but River2sea have some very realistic crayfish imitations, though they're a bit on the expensive side.

I didn't notice anyone say tubejig it will catch bass anywhere period. Navajo also has a shad population so you might take that into consideration.

I have Friends in Gilbert, and Mesa AZ. Our favorite patterns are 3-4 inch Tubes in Pumpkin seed by Berkley. Dependent on depth 1/4 to 3/4 ounce. Yamamoto makes some patterns that work well, or even better. But Berkley is the go to bait.

I was daydreaming about fishing today. Just because craws are usually on the bottom crawling around doesn't mean you have to fish them that way, I've caught several bass while burning in a craw pattern to cast again.
