HURON, OH -The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has opened a public comment period for a revised management plan and boundary amendment of the Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve.
The revised management plan for the Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve contains the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the reserve; updates the reserve boundary; and outlines plans for facility use and development to support reserve operations. Plan objectives address critical coastal issues related to water quality, invasive species, habitat loss, and climate change.
Since the last approved management plan in 2000, the reserve has added a Coastal Training Program that delivers science-based information to decision-makers; expanded education programs for students, teachers, and the public; conducted on-going research and monitoring; and developed partnerships to restore and conserve the Old Woman Creek watershed. In addition, the reserve has also completed construction of a new dormitory, boathouse, and administrative spaces.
The plan can be accessed for review at: www.oldwomancreek.org. For further information or to submit comments contact Bree Murphy at 301-563-1124 or Laurie McGilvray at 301-563-1158 of NOAA's National Ocean Service, Estuarine Reserves Division, 1305 East-West Highway, N/ORM5, 10th floor, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The public comment period closes April 23.
