Lake Powell is was hot this weekend! Air temps near 80, water temps 56-60, stripers red hot.

Haven't been fishing with my Dad and Grandpa in 7+ years after living out-of-state for a long time. Planned a trip with pops, gramps, a few relatives from South Dakota, a cousin and my friend. It was great to get the old boys out on the water and peel some lines.

We fished stripers in near antelope point friday and saturday to find schools suspended at 60-40 feet in depths of 350+. Standard chovie rigs did the trick as we boated over 100 stipers on friday. I'm usually a catch photo and release guy but we kept almost all stripers this trip. The stripers are pretty skinny hopefully the shad have a plentiful spawn this year. The cleaning station looked like a sushi bar on steroids, someone at the station said over 1000 stripers were harvested friday.

Late saturday, I split from the bait chuckers to try for some largies near lone rock. Landed 5 largies and a smallmouth in less than an hour. All released for a healthy spawn.

ugh i'm supposed to be going to Powell in 13 days. But I bowed out this year as my mom is pretty sick and I dont want to be anywhere I cant be reached. But this is making it hard to keep that decision.

She'd understand. lol

Good catch.

We were there on Thursday the 14th and Friday the 15th also, and caught 156 over those two days. We fished canyon walls and points with the standard Anchovie rigs. Weather was fantastic! Sitting here in my office looking outside and wishing I were fishing there again this week!

Edit: We ended up with 19 one gallon freezer bags full of fillets! About 2 of every 10 that we caught were skinny. Some areas produced smaller and skinnier fish, others produced larger and fatter fish.

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing.  Then I retired.  Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

Glad to hear you found some fat ones. Ours were skinny, not sickly but I like'em with a little more meat on their bones. I did hear some guys found some in the six pound class.[fishon]
