Cold Camas
#1
First outing of the year on the pontoon on Friday...where to go? No great reports anywhere with the high water, murky water, etc. We decided to try Little Camas, since ice is off and the winter report was some nice sized trout ice fishing. Maybe some nice holdover trout?? Water stayed up all year, so its possible. Or maybe those SMB we got into last year have put on some size.

First it was cold, cold, cold. Knew there wasn't going to be any SMB action when I had to continually break ice off the rod to get the fly line to cast. Worked the water every way I knew how. Managed to bring 3 little guys up to the boat - an 8", a 10" and a 12 incher. At least we didn't get skunked and all 3 of those little guys are back in the water to get bigger. A guy bank fishing said one of his party caught a 20 incher off the bank, but I didn't see the fish. It took the trip home before I could feel my toes again.

But it was nice just to get out and wet (or ice up) a fly line.

I hope Camas comes back, it used to be a lot of fun. I doubt it was a 20"er but I guess it could be, they grow fast in there. They didn't do fish salvage last year?

I hope so too. No, they didn't salvage fish it last year, and water levels stayed up enough for them to stock it again last Oct. If the water levels stay up this year, next spring could be pretty good.
