#1
Is Lake Lowell warming up yet? I heard it was only about 50 -51 deg on Sunday

Was there yesterday and my fish-finder was reading 54 most of the afternoon. I have no idea how accurate it is though. We didn't hook any fish but we weren't trying to hard, mostly seeing if the boat was sea worthy.

I fished Lake Lowell this afternoon. Water temps ranged from 54 up to 63 in some spots. Fishing was very good for me. I'm not sure how anyone else did, for I saw very few boats or fishermen. I caught 17 LM Bass with a 17', an 18", and a 19" fish. All these fish were caught on a Swimming Senko in blue pearl/silver flake. The bait has something to do with the success, but where and how I was fishing had more to do with it.

I have been having fair to good fishing every day, but the wind and cold fronts have hurt catches several days in the past week. Tomorrow should be the best day so far this year.

Nice job Smart Weed! I'm gonna try it Saturday I hope I can find some active fish. Are they getting aggressive at all or do you have to fish really slow.............

There are quite a few very active fish. You just have to look for them. I even caught fish on soft toads at the end of last week, and undoubtedly could have yesterday.

The wind is fairly strong from the SE at the moment, but it is already in the low 40s, so it should be good this afternoon.

Glad the fish are perking up! With some warm nights things might look pretty good Saturday!

I didn't do as well this afternoon as I had hoped. I caught quite a few fish, but the big ones were missing. My best fish was 14". Water temps varied from 54 on the main lake to 63 back on the flats. My best bait today was an old timer that a few might remember - the Hawaiian Wiggler. It is the best spinner type swim jig I have found for use on Lake Lowell. About 10-15 years ago I caught a 6.5 pound LM about 200 yards from my front door on a Hawaiian Wiggler, so I have a soft spot for it. This is what is looks like:

I have never seen one of those! Cool looking lure..... I have always used spinner baits.

63 degrees is pretty good.
Looks like they are forcasting rain for Saturday.... hope they are wrong!

i struggled thurs as well until i found 1 spot where they on the flat in about 2 feet of water. it was 66 degrees super shallow and 55 6 feet and deeper. we only caught 6 but they were all shallow. we caught them all within the last hour of sunlight. i read your post about 17 on the previous trip and thought you were the man because we struggled until we found the spot. i guess i am just a smallie strike brownlee and owyhee pro. lowell isn't an easy spot to fish.

If you're only using spinner baits, you are missing out on a lot of good action. Try Zoom Horney Toads in watermelon red or Zoom Super Flukes in the same color. I use the Horney Toads just like a jig with a bullet weight. I drop them down the side of the trees. They actually swim down with their legs a kickin' and then jig them back up. Make sure you bury the hook to make it weedless.

BTW, the Treasure Valley Open bass tourney is Saturday. Quite a few bass boats will be running around there. I was also thinking about going Sat until I checked and found out about the tourney.

Yeah Bob I use plastics at Lake Lowell too. Thanks for the tip on the horney toads. I use purple or black ring worms a lot.

What ramp are they going out of for the tourney Bob? I'm gonna go anyway, it's the only day I can go for awhile so I will just have to elbow my way in......

I call it the Caldwell ramp but I guess it has another name and I should learn it, lol. Anyhow it is the farther one down Hwy 55 by the fruit stand.

BTW, we just got back on Monday from the Great Western Fan Fest in Visalia, CA. We went with the Liberty Quartet on one of the two buses they send down. This is the 2nd year that we've gone. What an awesome Southern Gospel music concert. It is put on by the Hoppers with Greater Vision, Legacy Five, and other great groups. Liberty Quartet is out of Boise and has been singing now for 15 years. They'll be singing with Greater Vision May 10th, 7 PM at Valley Shepherd Church on Meridian/Kuna road.

I guess I will put in at the Nampa ramp! ( I call them the Nampa and the Caldwell dams too Bob!) I''ve also heard them called the upper & lower dams.....

Bob, that ramp is at the Lower Dam. Fishing should be good this weekend. I had an interesting morning today, fishing from 9-12 noon. I only caught 4, as the carp have moved into the warmer flats and the bass seem to have backed off a bit,. I only caught one 17" fish on the flat. I then caught three more in the trees in 3-4' of water. One was small, one 18" and one was a 21" x 5 1/4 pounder. I didn't get a photo for as I was removing her from the scale hook, she made a big flip and after a comic juggling act by me, she landed back in the lake. At least I did get to measure and weigh her.

Was out on Lowell last night myself. Found quite a few willing biters. the magic number seemed to be 60 degrees. June bug worm did the trick.

Out again saturday evening. Fish were a bit deeper 4'-6' and not as plentiful. Caught six or seven ranging from 12"-17". Got my daughter in on the action which was awesome. Zoom junebug worm and an old chart spinner bait fooled 'em.

I am planning on heading up to fish for cats at LL. I would like to see the water a little warmer. Over night 60 degrees will have me thinking about it real fast. Ron
