Birch Creek

I am just curious, but does Birch Creek and some of the other streams over on the west of the desert blow out in the spring? Does anyone know if they are already done with their main spring high water?

Because Birch creek flows from a spring it can be higher in the spring from the sub, but I have never seen it so bad that it couldn't be fished.

Birch is one of my favorite places, in the spring it will get higher and a little murky but it won't blow out, I ve never seen a spot that the run off makes it all the way down to the creek. Not saying it doesn't happen but I just haven't seen it.

Like the rest of you who have commented, Birch Creek being a spring fed water does run somewhat high in the spring and may be a tinge of off color, but, the fish are there to be played with.

how do you fish it most often? and what patterns work well for spring up there. i was contemplating going up there this weekend with my family. any tips would be awesome

Kind of sounds like you prefer fly fishing. When I fly fished, I used a Parachute Adams size 14-16. Have also used small spinners, Panther Martins and Rooster Tails, curly tail jigs, bait etc. Remember, the fish are quite eager.

Couple of flys is all a guys need up there, Renegade in a size 16 ( if all a guy had was this he would catch lots of fish year round) elk hair caddis in summer same size or or a griffins gnat. Never thrown an adams, sure it would do fine. In all honesty I have turned a lot of beginners loose with a rod with a renegade tied on and they usually pull in 20-30 fish in a 2 hour period on it, regardless of the time of the year.

Renegades Rule, that is all there is to it, but did you know they were designed to represent snails?

Not sure how a renegade on the surface represents a snail of anything else but . . . a Renegade is one of the best small steam flies I know of.

Birch Creek by Lone Pine. Salmon flies should be hatching up there bout now. Took my 4 year old fly fishing up there last year this time, and the salmon flies were everywhere.

head to mudlake jump on highway 28 and drive to lone pine.

If you go up I15 to Sage Junction , turn west and go through Mud Lake and follow the road to Lone Pine . It is the creek that follows the road for several miles . Hope This helps . Curt G.

Panfried brookies are just the best! Clean em, chop of the heads and fry em up and use the tail for a handle. You can eat them bones and all!
