Hot off the press, Straberry OPEN!
#1
I know there's a bunch of you trout hounds out there who've been chomping at the bit for open water at the Berry. I drove by yesterday morning and 90% of the lake was still capped. just drove by this afternoon and the entire lake viewable from the highway is open water. Hit it while it's hot!!![fishin]

RATS! I missed ice-off at Strawberry again. I was going to go up this coming Friday, but it looks like I'll be too late to fish between the shoreline and the ice as I had been waiting to do for many weeks. Oh well, I may still go. I'll just have to change my tactics. Unfortunately, I've never fished Strawberry this time of year. Now that the water is wide open, will the fish still be near the shore, or do I need to take my float tube? (My boat's still in storage.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would take your float tube. That has been my experience in the past.

It's true...Fishing is no good up there right now...I'm not wasting my time going back until a bit later on in the season... We fished last Saturday night from 10:30-3 am on the soldier side....Didn't even get a bite. We noticed there were tons of some kind of bugs crowding the rocks on the shores...I mean huge populations of pretty good sized bugs...Not sure what they were, but if I was a fish I would be targeting easy food rather than chasing down something that moved. I was pretty clueless????
