went to benson about 4:30 on friday and was catfishing using worms and power bait from shore. did get one bite thought on the worm if my rod wasunt in the ground i would have needed to buy a new one i was using a size 3 circle hook when my dad set the hook the line broke i think it was a big carp o well. any way i need some help with the catfishing in cache valley. any suggestions

One thing I've done - which I think helps - is to set the drag WAY loose - I think TD even leaves his bale open, and tucks the line under a rubber band (pop and drops). When the catfish feel back pressure - they might drop the bait. If they can pick it up and move away with it - then you tighten down, and set it. Helps to have a reel that clicks. But with some of the circle hooks, and octopus hooks - they pretty well set the hook as they move off.

And as TD reminds me - Fish don't break lines, fishermen do. So loose the drag and let em wear themselves out. I've seen was what probably a 20lb carp caught on a kiddie princess pole, so it can be done (the fish was bigger than the pole!)
I landed a tiger musky on 6lb mono, with a Sear's pole, and cheap Kmart reel. And them's got TEETH!
