DENVER - The Colorado Division of Wildlife is urging anglers to get out and enjoy the outdoors and a Cabela's contest offers some good incentives to do so. The Nebraska-based retailer is sponsoring "Wanna Go Fishing for Millions," offering anglers the chance to win cash prizes for catching specially-tagged fish in 67 lakes across 19 states. Division biologists selected Lake Pueblo and Blue Mesa Reservoir for the first year of this contest.
"The company approached us for permits to hold this competition," said Greg Gerlich, aquatic section manager for the Division of Wildlife. "We reviewed their plans and eagerly said 'yes' to this effort to encourage fishing participation."
Lake Pueblo is located at Lake Pueblo State Park, west of the city of Pueblo in southeastern Colorado. In addition to a valid Colorado fishing license anglers at Lake Pueblo State Park must have a valid Colorado State Parks pass. A total of ten walleye, largemouth bass and rainbow trout were specially tagged at Lake Pueblo State Park for the contest.
Blue Mesa Reservoir, part of the Curecanti National Recreation Area, is located west of the town of Gunnison in southwest Colorado. A total of 15 brown and rainbow trout were tagged at the reservoir.
Tagged fish that are legally caught by anglers are eligible for prizes in the contest and anglers can earn additional prizes and bonus cash by using certain brands of equipment or wearing certain clothing when the fish are caught. Complete details of the contest are available online at http://www.cabelas.com/fishformillions. The contest began Saturday, May 14 and runs through Thursday, July 14.
Fishing contests involving tagged fish in the state of Colorado must be approved by the Director of the Division of Wildlife in accordance with Wildlife Commission regulations.
