Just heard about a huge pike caught at Comins. Longer than the state record but lower weight. Guess some survived by cannibalism & grew. Also heard NDWR is gonna drain & treat it again in hopes of re-establishing a trout and bass fishery. They'd better drain & treat Basset and the stream that feeds it as well as the slough downstream first otherwise that a--hole will do his bucket biology again.

This will be the second time NDWR will have to drain Commins to rid it of the illegally planted pike. Maybe some volunteers will watch for that A-hole attempting to release pike again. Hope they catch the bastard if he tries it again.

Hrmm,
Well my info is old. Several years ago when the trout fishing was still good I met the NDOW biologist who was taking care of Comins. The pike had already been found so I was fishing Comins a lot while it was still good.
He said they were going to do three things... 1) Drain and kill off all the fish at Basset. 2)Drain and kill all fish at Comins and 3) Raise the dam making Comins a few feet deeper.
He also said they knew who was stocking the pike, they just wasn't able to catch them doing it. I couldn't convince him to let me know who that was dang it!.
Have a nice day folks,

Yea, I talked to a few game wardens about this when I get carded at Floyd Lamb. They did say they had a suspect but were unable to prove it.
I don't understand why someone would ruin a fine trout lake like Comins for some nasty pike. Drop them in some place else like that dead Walker Lake.

Heya guys,
There are some seriously dedicated pike fisherman out there. A lot of them are nice folks. Heck, I can even understand them wanting a nice pike fishery near town, especially if they don't care about the trout.
That being said, there are some plain facts this jerk is ignoring. First and foremost, Comins will NEVER be a sustainable pike fishery. It doesn't have the proper make up. The only reason that the state record was caught there was a few have a chance to get really big on available bass and trout, but then the rest stunt. It's not healthy for the fishery. This guy is stocking these guys so he can catch one fish basically. And everyone else be damned. Not my sort of individual.
I think the biggest reason I don't like this guy is he ignores the impact he's making on the community. When the trout fishing was good at Comins, the town benefited. You cannot camp at the lake so many would stay in hotels or the KOA there, not to mention Cave lake just up the road. I remember staying at a hotel there one trip and meeting like 4 other guys fishing Comins. And it was only getting better.
I am looking forward to the day when I can catch a grip of huge trout there again.
As always, I leave an open invite for the jerk who stocked the pike in Comins. I have a few things I'd like to "discuss" with you.
Later,

I'm about 99% sure I know who that clown is. If I wasn't so old, I'd give the asshole the thumping of his life. At least Comins is just a small lake and not part of a river system. Look what has happened to the Green River in Wyoming. Some idiot introduced burbot to a reservoir in the upper reaches of the river and now they have made it down to Flaming Gorge where they are raising havoc with the fishery. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't eventually find their way down to Powell and eventually to Lake Mead. About the only good thing to be said about burbot is that they are great table fare.
