Cutler 5/31
#1
Since my brother had his first leave from the Army after his tour in Afghanistan, decided to take the day off and take him fishing. Was supposed to be a nice sunny day so I though the catfish would be active. Started out the morning cold and cloudy with only a few mud cats to show for our efforts. After lunch though, we were able to get the boat working so we could try a few spots that I couldn't get to in the morning due to the muddiness of the roads. First place we stopped was a bust, but within a half hour of being at our second stop, my brother got a bit that at first we thought was just a snag, because when he pulled on the line, it didn't move. When the fish on the other end woke up and realized that it was hooked, he was in for a pretty good fight. Managed to boat the thing after a few minutes of coaxing, and it was the biggest catfish I've seen this year. Weighed in at 10lbs, 4 oz, and to my knowledge, the biggest fish he has ever caught.

On another note, the water is really high in Cutler, as I'm sure it is in most places, so we were able to get our boat into just about anywhere we wanted to. The water was also somewhat cold, couldn't get my fishfinder to give us a temperature, but with the warm spell that we're supposed to be having for the rest of the week, I only expect the fishing to get better.

That is a nice one Karl! That's cool that you could get your bro into a nice fish like that!
That's funny that you didn't even know the fish was there. I've had that happen too

They just slurp up a snack, then sit back and chew on it, eh? Surprised to have bobbers move sideways, but never even go under.

I'm just kicking myself - I think I left a new rod by the Benson launch. That's what I get for trying for "one last cast" while packing up the boat. (so if anyone happened to find it....)

Nice that now the holiday weekend has passed, and we finally start getting some sunny days!

Ouch, that really sucks Coyote and hopefully someone honest who posts on BFT found it and will get it back to you. I've left tubing fins, flashlights and even full bags of tackle behind and it always hurts to go back and not find your stuff there. Why do we accidentally leave things behind? Maybe we need to eat more salmon, but my theory is fishing fanatics, like many members of BFT, have too much stuff and it only takes one distraction while packing up (setting stuff aside for that one last cast, low light conditions, your phone rings) to leave valuable fishing gear behind. So for the sake of people like me who can be forgetful sometimes, please please please make a post on the major fishing forums whenever you find gear that was left behind. Don't post all the specifics so people will have a chance to pm you and correctly identify the lost item. I know not everyone reads these forums but a good number of Utah anglers do. If you post a lost item don't get a correct I.D. from someone after a week then at least you've done the honorable thing and tried to get it back to it's owner. Just remember the golden rule and good karma will come to you some day as well.

p.s. Did anyone find a grocery bag at Holmes Creek Reservoir that had some purple senkos and spinnerbaits in it a few weeks ago? [fishon]
