#1
So when will the crawdads start showing up in the shallows? My kids want to go (so do I)

I've always had the best luck catching crawdads at Strawberry in the later summer or even early fall. By then they've had all summer to grow bigger. I've never tried in the early spring.

You can get them any time of year, but they are definitely the most active inthe summer. I traditionally go the first weekend in August. Last trip we filled a small garbage can in one day with the family. Toss in a cage with old ham or chicken and let it soak for several hours. you will see the 'dads moving along the shallows towards your treat.

If you do go in August, be sure to toss back the females who are packing eggs.

In LA a few weeks ago. Wish we had crawfish like they do. Check out the pic of the crawfish boil I went to. I'm hooked and can't wait to try it here.

It might be worthwhile in another couple weeks. Maybe 20-30 eaters for a 4-6 hour soak. To cold and turbid right now. But once it clears a bit the surface temps soar and they come shallow real quick.
