I fish around North idaho alot. Spirit lake, Blanchard, pend oreille river, ect. We cant catch anything. If we do, its a little 2 pounder. We went from catching 5 pounders left and right for years, now, we cant catch a single thing. Was sort of like that last year.
So my question is- why is this happening? Two, Which lakes are hitting up here?
Thanks

Welcome! It is nice to hear from Northern Idaho. I hope you keep us posted on how the fishing is up there, and more "Northerns" may join in.
I don't know about up there, but down here it has been very slow getting started because of the cold spring we have had. It froze again last night! What are your water temps? It seems to need to be around 60 or above before I start catching many of the warm water fish. Good luck.
Be sure and let us know what you find out. I didn't even know there were many big bass spots up your way!

Water is still about 54 degrees. Yeah we have great lakes up here with big fish but nothing last year or this year. I mean NOTHING. Were huge BASS fishermen and we cant catch a thing. We Want to know whats going on! Just a joke. Spend 4 hours and catch a little 2 pounder. Dumb.

I'm mostly just a trout fisherman, but from what I hear, there's no kind of fish that's biting well right now. Water is too cold or too murky. Except for salmon. The guy at the sporting goods store this morning said guys are limiting out down on the river.
Spring 2010 was pretty wet and cool too. But if you're saying that all last summer the 5lb bass were nowhere to be found where they've been in the past, then I have no idea.
The guy who recently posted a review on Dworshak looks like he did alright.

Don't worry your not the only one! we've been having trouble getting bass also. When we do get one they are the little guys. I haven't heard of anybody doing real well this year. I thought when the water temps got up to 60 things would pick up but i'm still waiting. The only lake we've done any good on is liberty lake in WA, couple weeks ago we got 7 bass in a day around 16-17" We've tried Upper Twin, Hauser, Hayden and Fernan but haven't had much luck on any of them. maybe high water levels is throwing them off???

Right on man. Where abouts do you live? Im in Post Falls. My grandfather who I fish with, lives in Blachard. So we fish Blanchard which used to awesome, and spirit lake, the river, and a couple more up north. Now that we are not hitting ANYTHING, we want to expand up to twin, Hayden, CDA lake ect.
Yeah if we do catch fish, there about 1-2 pounds. We caught about 9 one day on Blanchard, but each one was small. Maybe they are down real deep, bc we are hitting all the edges. Docks, trees, ect.
If the picture works, this is us on Blanchard. This is what were USED to catching. We thought all the big boys were gone up here bc of stupid people keeping them and taking them home, but in huge lakes like Coeur D alene, theres no way thats the case.

I live here in post falls too. Haven't fished Blanchard but we are thinking of going up to try the pend oreille river once the water levels drop a bit. I haven't fished there yet but it looks like there's a lot of good areas to try. We fished hauser again yesterday for a couple of hrs but i only managed to get one bass around 12" and couldn't find any crappie. at least the weather was nice!

i am new to fishing in Idaho...i have lived here for just over 2 yrs...I live in Heutter which is between Post Falls and CDA and i finally got my liscense this year and fishing tackle...i have fished the Spokane River from Huetter to the River Stone section of CDA and have been succesfull in catching many small mouth..unfortunately the dilema continues with them being rather small...the biggest one i got may have been about 10 inches..if im lucky...but most are averaging from tiny 2 inchers to about 6 inches...i have also fished Kelso, Fernan, and CDA lakes and same deal deal...small...6-7 inches maximum....and when i got my liscense and started fishing...it was about a month ago...well into the warmer weather...and i cant find the big ones thus far either...the only explanation i can think of has pretty much been stated...with it being rather cold and wet rather late into the year...i think it may hav affected the growth of the bass...i have no explanation for 2010...but this year doesnt seem to be the year for the big guys...but if my luck changes..ill let you know!!
