Snake River Report - Ron take note
#1
Today I took a break from Lake Lowell to check out the Snake River in the Marsing area. The river is still running high and dirty, but it is down 3-4' from a week ago. It is still running 4 feet higher than a year ago. I fished the river on June 23, 2010 and it was running 7610 cfs and the Murphy gauge showed 3.65'. Today the river was running 17,600 cfs (yes, that's 10,000 cfs higher) and the gauge read 7.07'. Not the best of conditions. However, I didn't have it as bad as this landowner does:

This dock normally is situated above the point it now sits on. Apparently it broke loose and rammed against the bank and the current turned it on its side. As you can see it is a big dock.

Despite the high and dirty water I did manage to catch a few fish. I landed 9 smallmouth up to 15" and the catfish shown below. The cat took a tube on my drop shot rod and took quite a while to land. A year ago I caught 23 smallmouth up to 18". Oh well, the water is bound to get lower and clearer sometime. ...maybe by September.
