Headed up to Pelican in the morning, and I have never been there before. Any tips on where to go or what to use? I am new to the forum, so I don't really know how this works. I am not asking for a secret lure or anything, just general whereabouts and bait. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would it be necessary to use a drop shot method? Or are there too many weeds?

FROGS!!!! Any pockets in the reeds will hold fish. If it looks like you will get snagged, there will be a fish there. Texas rig your plastics and you should be good.

Bring the bug spray!!!
A couple weeks back we did well on bluegills by fishing in and around anywhere the fresh new tules were growing up. We fished small jigs under bobbers tipped with worms or just a jighead with worm. I did really well on some of my ice fishing stuff that was just different than the other offerings. Bass up to 16" ate the 1-1/2" tube jigs and 2" curlytails, too.
If you can use a slip float, it helps, because there are lots of places to get snagged, so for gills at least, we did that so the jig would swing less and just drop more straight down under the bobber. They'd pick it up on the drop or shortly after.
I caught a couple of bass on one of those jig spinners (that make your jig look like a little spinnerbait). That's all we tried, really..
Oh, shore fishing was pretty hard cuz the water was so high., and if you're wading watch out for swimmers itch....
