Echo Expedition
#1
Made our first boat trip to Echo Saturday. Beautiful morning with no wind and hardly any other boats. It started out a little cool, then got downright hot by mid-day. Water temps around 62-66 F, so it's coming up. Water level was still way up in the trees and the Weber was overflowing its banks in the pastures between Wanship and Echo. Water clarity was good (could see four-five feet down easily).

We decided to troll Rapalas on two rods and one with a wedding ring/worm combo. Took us five minutes to hook into a nice Bow with pretty good shoulders around 20". We proceeded to have consistent action through the morning until about noon. Ended up catching about 20 fish total (counting the many who jumped clear of the water and tail-walked like a Steelhead) that eventually spit the hooks. Kept a few for the grill and turned the rest loose. Saw a few other baots catching some on pop gear. Talked to one other angler who were targeting Smallmouth Bass. They said thepicked up 20 or so. Great shakedown outing.

Looks like fun. Were there a bunch of pleasure craft up there yet? Or was it still to cool to get wet?

Nope. Only a few boats pulling kids on tubes and one wakeboarder wearing a wetsuit. Quite surprising for a sunny Saturday...[cool]
