last time i was out at birch creek i met a guy who said he fished it alot and he told me in the fall the brook trout get to be about 12-14 inches in the fall. he said thats the time to come cause they get bigger. Is this true. seems like with all the times that i have been there so far i woulda caught a holdover in that size range.
also on the fish and games website it says they have only stocked rainbows. are the brookies wild there alot of them look to be that way but im not sure.

First 12-14 in brookies?
Um caught over a 1000 fish there each year for the last 3 maybe 4 years and have I ever seen a brookie that big? Nope not even close. There are some rainbows that size if you get lucky and fish a couple of stretches.
Brookies spawn up there.

thats what i was figuring. since i am new to idaho and birch creek i didnt want to discredit his statement till i talked to others. but i have caught maybe an 11 inch rainbow and maybe a 8 inch brookie out of there so far out of 1000 or so fish. so i found it hard to believe.

All those brookies aren't going to get that big. I think it's just easier to find the few bigger brookies during the spawn when they congregate. Otherwise it's one in a thousand dispersed in the stream. Unlike the smaller stunted brookies that'll bite anything the bigger ones actually spook easily. If you're fishing downstream or get lazy with the stealth approach you won't ever get a bigger one outside the spawn on such a small stream.
